| Oil-paintings of Christiaan Auwerda and his brother (1774) |
![]() Oil-painting of Christiaan Auwerda |
These are two oil portraits painted on what appears to be wood and framed in gold
leaf frames. On the back of one of the paintings (left) it says:
"This one is of Christian Auwerda, the one who married Paping, the
other one is his brother." (see genealogy) and "painted in 1774". Most probably Christiaan Lodewijk Auwerda, Christiaan's grandson (see genealogy), brought the paintings with him from Holland to the US. They are now in the possesion of Tim Morrissey (whose great-great-grandfather was Christiaan Lodewijk Auwerda). |

Any help on further identification of the portraits is very much appreciated. Like which brother could it be along with Christian? And who would have done the work? Contact us...
